When undertaking any electrical work please do not be tempted to accept the cheapest quote and never employ a non registered tradesman, always look for an NICEIC or ECA registered company,do not be caught out - 20% of all electrical items within the U.K are counterfeit, not just domestic appliances but also cable, circuit breakers, switches, sockets and consumer units.

I Agree Always allow the electrician to supply the materials via a registered electrical wholesaler which ensures compliance with U.K standards and guards against poor quality and inappropriate materials, in certain cases only the external parts are genuine the internal parts being imported sub standard materials that are not up to the job and could prove to be a potential shock or fire risk.

"ELECTRICITY CAN KILL AND THE SYSTEMS CONTROLLING IT NEED TO BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY"

Here is a 7 point checklist to avoid rogue traders and cowboy builders!
Info • Are they a member of a certification body like the NICEIC or ECA?
• Do they have a website where you can check their credibility?
• Can they supply references or recommendations?
• Have they given you a landline number as well as a mobile?
• Can you verify their business address?
• Have they asked for cash up front?
• Have they given you a price on a scrap of paper?
